While on patrol, Officer
Patrick Starrett noticed an
occupied vehicle parked in
the large shopping center
lot adjacent to Hall's
Grocery. The truck was in
an inconspicuous spot, and
at the time of night,
appeared somewhat out of
place with the other
surrounding businesses, such
as the Albertsons or
Blockbuster Video
Store. Officer Starrett pulled
in to speak with the driver,
who told the policeman he
was just waiting to meet up
at that
pre-designated location for
a friend.
Later that night, at
Tuesday, October 7th, as a
result of Officer Starrett's
alert field identification,
three suspects were arrested
for the Theft of over 1500
gallons of gasoline stolen
from Charlie Hall's gas
pumps over the previous four
to five days.
Colleyville
detectives believe Hall's
Grocery was but one
of several local service
stations that had been hit
by the thieves. The
suspects would appear after
the business was closed down
for the night,
and access the shut off gas
pumps by turning them back
on through a keypad
mechanism.
One of suspects listed
below, believed to be the
ringleader of the trio,
bragged to police that he
hadn't needed to purchase
gas since the year 2001.
Arrested at the scene of the
crime were the following
suspects:

Halls Grocery is one of the
last two remaining
pioneer Colleyville family
businesses-the other one
being Foremans Feed Store.
Charlie Hall, the iconic
patriarch of the store,
told Local News Only the
loss from the
gasoline-$4,800-cost him
very dearly, "Corporate
business just takes a tax
deduction. As you and I
struggle to make it in the
current market, Theft hits
the small business man
particularly hard."
.
Detective David Martz
is following up the
investigation with other
police agencies in the area.
